In both experiments, pet rations containing the NF or HF pet feedstuff significantly (P = 0.0001) increased hen daily weight gain (DWG) (grams per hen per day) as compared with hens fed diets containing LF pet food. The pellet type influenced only the weight gain of broiler breeder (BF) hens. Pet rations were formulated using a potato flour-based pellet and fish meal-based pellet with high fat (HF) or low fat (LF) content, or no fat (NF). Two experiments were conducted to examine the effect of pet feedstuff and length of laying hen experiment (i.e., 8 and 16 wk of age) on the nutrient contents and weight gain of hens.
